Porthleven to Lizard Point - Thursday 18th April 2013
Path Facts - Length: 13.4 miles, Ascent: 2428 feet
For a short spell some really dark clouds came over and rain bordering on sleet came down with some force. Donned everything whilst sheltering behind a house and carried on.
Loe Bar was considerably more impressive than expected though the emerging sun and big waves probably helped a lot.
I think there was consensus that this was one of the best walks we'd done. Some of the scenery was great.
Dogs don't just drive tractors...
Stopped at Poldu Beach cafe about midday...
...and on past the Marconi centre.
Then stopped at the cafe at Mullion Cove for lunch.
More spectacular coastline and clear views out to sea...
The path takes an inland route for a bit through moor-like territory and Lizard Town, although quite a few miles off in coastline terms can be seen not so far as the crow flies.
Then we came upon one of the highlights, Kynance Cove.
What a great spot for a cafe where you can sit and watch the waves coming in whilst drinking shandy and eating ice cream. Hardcore!
Wildlife.
Looking back on Kynance Cove.
Approaching Lizard Point.
After basking in the glory of Lizard Point and the lighthouse we made our way up to Lizard Town and our digs. We had covered the most Westerly point at Land's End a few days ago, and now the most Southerly point after having crossed onto the South Coast, so we'd touched a few land marks. We were also, at 300 miles into the walk, not very far from halfway round the whole path. Two days into Leg 7 at Helford crossing we would be at the halfway point.
Top House Inn, another St Austell pub, was a really good stay and highly recommended. They upgraded our room at no extra charge. The room and bathroom were one of the best and the food and bar were great.

Epilogue
Here's my entry for the next exhibition at Newlyn Art Gallery. It's called "pants on the radiator" and represents the anguish of the soul of man in a postmodern wajdamajig.
Addendum - Walkers Strategy Section
This website is rather nifty. You can mark points on a route on a map and it gives you the elevation for the whole route. Here is the Porthleven to Lizard Point section (in metres):
