Lizard Point to Coverack - Sunday 1st September 2013
Path Facts - Length: 10.6 miles, Ascent: 2146 feet
It's a long trip down to Lizard Point. 5 hour train trip to Truro yesterday followed by over an hour bus journey to Helston where we stayed overnight before another hour bus trip this morning to get us to the Lizard.
This gave us possibly the latest start of any day so far and we didn't really start walking until 11.30 am. It was sunny and not too warm at first but got very warm and humid for walking as the day progressed.
The first real stop was for lunch at Cadgwith which is a really nice typical Cornish fishing village. Good grub at The Old Cellars (apart from wasps who seem to have come with a vengeance after a late start in the year).
There were more wooded sections on this leg which gave some respite from the sun.
We stumbled upon a real life modern day ship wreck at Lankidden Cove. Apparently the French fishing boat had run aground whilst on auto pilot and everyone asleep. We could hear the hull being banged against the rocks for quite a distance like a huge industrial gong.
There's a news story about the wreck on BBC Cornwall here. We saw the same boat again at Falmouth, having being transported to the docks there.
Coastline and colourful heather!
Arrived about 5pm at Coverack. Nice place. Dropped our packs off at the digs and had a wander along the sea front.

So where are we you may be asking? Here's a handy orientation map showing the start and end point for this particular trip. This is approx 68 miles in total and our longest leg attempted in one hit, with 6 days walking and a few long days.
Elevation from Lizard Point to Coverack:
Cracking part of the coast path. If you get a chance to return, you can get down onto Lankidden beach - if you head toward it, a light path will appear, follow it down (there’s a rope to help keep you safe on the way down & up).
