Porthleven to Lizard Point

Porthleven to Lizard Point - Thursday 18th April 2013

Path Facts - Length: 13.4 miles, Ascent: 2428 feet

Longest day of this leg today. Still windy. Ascent about average. Quite sunny but still cold. Still big waves in Porthleven harbour.

For a short spell some really dark clouds came over and rain bordering on sleet came down with some force. Donned everything whilst sheltering behind a house and carried on.

Loe Bar was considerably more impressive than expected though the emerging sun and big waves probably helped a lot.

Marazion to Porthleven

Marazion to Porthleven - Wednesday 17th April 2013

Path Facts - Length: 10.6 miles, Ascent: 1749 feet

Left about 9.30 am. Wind blowing a gale this morning and fairly cool. Gauging temperature regulation can be tricky sometimes. You get a fair sweat on with a pack on and wearing a Goretex but it's too cold and damp to remove many layers.

The coast became a bit wilder again after yesterday's semi-urban ramblings.

Lamorna to Marazion

Lamorna to Marazion - Tuesday 16th April 2013

Path Facts - Length: 9.4 miles, Ascent: 604 feet

Set off just after 9 am. Descended into Lamorna then up a fair climb out to the cliff tops. There were some tricky passages with mixtures of wet mud then boulders making it challenging underfoot.

Sennen Cove to Lamorna

Sennen Cove to Lamorna - Monday 15th April 2013

Path Facts - Length: 12.1 miles, Ascent: 3071 feet

Really good full veg breakfast at the Old Success Inn before heading off at 9.15 am for an above averagely tough day. Land's End was only just over a mile away and although there's clearly a lot of tourist tack there it's still a major landmark on the walk so we were looking forward to it.

Pendeen to Sennen Cove

Pendeen to Sennen Cove - Sunday 14th April 2013

Path Facts - Length: 9 miles, Ascent: 1923 feet

Having arrived early and spent a couple of days in and around Penzance I had experienced, according to the locals, the first warm(ish) weather for months and a good dose of rain as well. Given we were in Penzance, a convenient stop at the end of the train journey, and needed to get to Pendeen on the North Coast we had booked a cab to get in a reasonable start. Bus was possible but we wouldn't have got going until early afternoon.

So after a leisurely 8.30am breakfast and the last minute usual psyching up routine, the cab took us across the county (only 7 miles) to Geevor Tin Mine where we left off last. Started walking at 9.45 am.
