Newquay - Saturday 8th September 2012
Travelling in style this time, first class train direct from St Albans to Newquay for £42! Given that the journey to and from the West Country is getting longer the further West we get, this seems like a better option. You can chill out, read a book, eat and get complementary tea and coffee. Need to book well in advance though for a cheap fare.
Arrived at Newquay about 5pm with the sun shining. The sun was in fact so in my eyes that I couldn't really see Newquay. I was, for a short time in a euphoric state - then I smelt chips, heard the language of the "chip eaters" and then I remembered what Newquay is like.
For this reason we decided to stay in Nearby Quintrell Downs, a short bus ride away. This was a definite cultural improvement. Sought out The Two Clomes for a beer then caught up with The Tebbutt about 7pm who had also travelled 1st class. Gentlemen or what? Andy was near borderline pulling out (again) due to back problems. Would he be able to make it, I hear all two readers of this blog shout in exclamation. You'll have to wait until tomorrow's installment to find out.
